A little history...

According to a verbal legend, of which no written version remains to verify, from prehistoric to medieval times, the village has stood on the plateau. It was burnt down following an Epidemic of the plague and rebuilt under the protection of its fortified chäteau on the hillside. In the cemetery, the twelfth century chapel, decorated with some magnificent Romanesque frescoes, remains as one of the rare witnesses to this period. The château, built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, was an advance post for the Biron barony and one of the most curious fortresses in the Dordogne, with its impressive ramparts partly destroyed over the years ; of these, only the foundations remain today as well as the Estuquètes tower. The central keep also stands out with its tall silhouette. Under the sixteenth century covered market, with its large dimensions, you will find the square pillar where the stocks were fixed.
